Born and raised in Park County, Dick Murphy attended Livingston public schools, St. Mary's School, and graduated from Park High School in 1968. He has been married to his wife, Jan, since 1986. They have two sons at Park High, Thomas and John.

Over the years, Murphy has pursued various job opportunities, including ranching, railroading with the Northern Pacific Railroad, construction with Hilde Highway Construction, and Biologists' Assistant for the Montana Fish and Game Department. He is presently, and for the last 17 years, Woodshop Manager at Deep Creek Productions for Russell Chatham.

As a member of the community, Murphy served two terms on Counterpoint's Board of Directors, two years as a board member for the State Regional Council for the Adult Developmentally Disabled and seven years on St. Mary's School Board. He is currently serving on the City of Livingston Tree Board.

As County Commissioner, Murphy wants to work for positive change in Park County, including the establishment of a better relationship between the City of Livingston and Park County.

Committed to the people of Park County, Dick Murphy will assure public voice through active participation in neighborhood forums and maintaining an "open door" policy that allows easy access for all of the people of Park County.

Dick Murphy believes it is important to listen to the people, understand their concerns, and inform them how the Commission's every decision will affect their lives and the future of this most beautiful and best place.
