I made my decision to run again for the City Commission because I truly love this community. We are all concerned citizens with the same worries about increased growth, economic development, infrastructure, city/county relationship….But I believe we as a community are seeing positive progress in dealing with all these concerns. I see community groups that in days past may not have seen eye to eye now are beginning to come and work together. Instead of operating in isolated vertical arenas, we are now commingling ideas and sharing common interests and looking for common goals. I think it is a good time to be living in Livingston.
I was born in Columbus, Ohio. I have been a cameraman in the film and video business working on documentaries both in the United States and worldwide. In 1990 my wife, Robin, and I began looking for a new place to live. I had spent most of my summers and free time traveling and working in the Rocky Mountain West, and Montana had always been a favorite. Livingston’s unique rural western character and its people’s friendliness captivated us and made our decision to move here an easy one.
Similar to my pre-Montana life, I have involved (Robin calls it immersed) myself in the community. Following my interests in historic preservation and civic organizations, I am a member of the Historic Preservation Commission, The Livingston Center for Art and Culture, Livingston Downtown Association, and the Montana Film Center which is working along with MSU to make media production an engine for economic development opportunities for Livingston and Park County.
I like people, and I enjoy working with people. Livingston is a very special place in Montana but we need to work hard to make Livingston the best place to live and raise our families. We need to help existing businesses to grow and expand, provide a viable infrastructure for servicing existing and new businesses, search out new businesses either entrepreneurial or traditional, and develop a growth management plan that retains Livingston’s small town character while allowing for appropriate growth and new economic opportunities for our residents.
I believe in affordable and stable neighborhoods, accessible government, and working together with people of differing perspectives to reach mutual goals and shared visions. And I believe in fostering better relations between the City and County Governments to achieve economic revitalization and economic stability for us all.
