United Nations Environmental Organization, 5th Committee,

Recognizing the dangers inherent in the technology and use of nuclear energy,

Recalling the tragedies of Bopal and Chernobyl,

Concerned about the potential for the proliferation of nuclear weapons as a byproduct of the expansion of nuclear reactors,

Further concerned that the developing nations will be urged toward accepting nuclear energy as the main alternative to the use of fossil fuel,

1. Requests that development of sustainable solar, wind, hydroelectric and retooled, energy efficient fossil fuel technologies to replace the call for use of nuclear energy;

2. Calls for investment in and deployment of such technologies;

3. Encourages the industrialized world to join the developing world in these moves away from nuclear energy toward a commonly sustainable future.
